Ray Bechard
Hall of Fame Class of 2018

Ray Bechard started his coaching career at Lewis High School in 1980 and was there for three years, coaching them to a pair of conference titles.

He became coach of Barton County Community College in 1985 and in 13 seasons accumulated 716 wins, with a winning percentage of 92.3%. Coach Bechard led Barton to the national tournament 12 out of his 13 seasons, placing in the top four in 10 of those tournaments.

He was named Head Coach at the University of Kansas in 1998, and in 20 seasons has won 374 matches, becoming  KU’s all-time wins leader and capturing the Big 12 title in 2016. Coach Bechard has led KU to the NCAA tourney 9 times, with a Final Four finish in 2015. He passed the collegiate 1000 win milestone in 2014.

He is a 12-time AVCA District 4 Junior College Coach of the Year, 2-time National Junior College Coach of the Year, a 4-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, a 3-time AVCA Region Coach of the Year, and was named Prep Volleyball National Coach of the Year in 2015.
